MAN begins serial production of electric trucks
2025-09-22

Electric Trucks – A New Era for Logistics
MAN CEO Alexander Vlaskamp emphasizes that this is a turning point in the company’s history:
"Serial production of electric trucks demonstrates our readiness to transition to clean and sustainable transport. Our goal is for MAN to become a fully CO₂-neutral manufacturer by 2050."
Currently, MAN offers vehicles from 12 to 50 tons – from city refuse trucks to long-haul tractors. By the end of the year, the first 1,000 electric trucks are expected to be delivered, potentially reducing emissions equivalent to those of a small European town.
Investing in Future Technologies
€400 million for research and development

The company has already invested nearly €400 million in developing electric vehicles, with plans to invest another €1 billion over the next decade, primarily in its German factories.
Munich Factory – Ready for Change
The MAN factory in Munich can produce up to 100 trucks daily. Manufacturing both electric and diesel models on a single line allows flexible responses to customer orders. This required reorganizing the supply chain and training over 5,000 employees to work with high-voltage technology.
Electric Trucks: Range and Advantages
- NMC batteries (up to 534 kWh), produced in Nuremberg, provide up to 500 km of range.
- Adding an extra battery can extend the range to 740 km without recharging.
- Average energy consumption is just 97 kWh/100 km.
- The "Ultra-Lowliner" tractor allows the use of three-meter-high semi-trailers, making it ideal for logistics.
So far, MAN has received approximately 700 orders for electric trucks. Nearly 200 pre-series models have already covered around 2 million kilometers on European roads.
Electric Buses – Another Success Story
In addition to trucks, MAN Truck & Bus offers the widest range of electric buses.
- City buses are produced at the Starachowice factory in Poland.
- Currently, more than 2,500 MAN electric buses operate in European cities.
- €250 million has been invested in battery production in Nuremberg.
MAN is recognized as the leader in the European electric city bus market.
Goal – CO₂ Neutrality by 2050
Since approximately 95% of emissions come from operating trucks and buses, transport electrification is a key path for MAN towards sustainability.
Replacing 1,000 diesel trucks with electric ones could save up to 80,000 tons of CO₂ annually, equivalent to the yearly emissions of a small German town.
Conclusion
The launch of MAN electric truck production marks a historic milestone not only for the company but also for the European transport sector. Massive investments in electrification, a wide range of trucks and buses, and sustainability targets demonstrate that MAN is a leader in the transition to an environmentally friendly transport future.
